Shares of GameStop soared nearly 16% on Wednesday, pushing its gains this week to 37%. Another Reddit target, AMC Entertainment, rallied more than 19%, bringing its weekly advance to more than 60%. Both were in the green again Thursday.Bank of America is identifying the potential up-and-coming WallStreetBets targets by analyzing for clients how many mentions each stock gets on Reddit, among other things like short interest.“We believe some of the new retail activity may be here to stay given zero commissions, more time at home, and high savings rates – but we do expect a moderation this year amid peak stimulus, re-opening and any potential regulatory action,” Bank of America equity and quant strategist Jill Carey Hall told clients in a note.Bank of America gave clients a list of the top small-to-mid cap stocks to watch during the return of the meme stock craze. The listed names have the most mentions on Reddit and short interest above the 5% average for the S&P 500.Take a look at the list here.AMC has overtaken GameStop as the no. 1 mentioned stock on the list, as WallStreetsBets mentions rise to their highest level since March. GameStop was embroiled in an epic short squeeze in January, where the brick-and-mortar video game retailer’s share price skyrocketed to $483 per share, and subsequently lost 90% of its value.“While GME discussions have continued to moderate, it remains the #2 mentioned SMID cap – and both GME and AMC shares have begun to surge again in recent days,” said Hall. “But our Equity Derivatives team notes that these two stocks exhibit all three signposts that have been associated with retail-led speculative rallies nearing their end.” (SMID means small- to mid-cap stock.)GameStop and AMC still each have 21% of their float shares sold short, according to Bank of America, compared with an average of 5% short interest in a typical U.S. stock.Beyond MeatandBioCryst Pharmaceuticalsare the two newest stocks getting attention on chat rooms. Beyond Meat had 25 mentions and BioCryst had 31 mentions on Reddit since last week. Plus, Beyond Meat has 25% and BioCryst has 13% of their float shares sold short, according to Bank of America.“Among those with high short interest, Biotech stock BioCryst (BCRX) made the screen for the first time in our data history (since August 2020), and Beyond Meat (BYND) has now been among the top 20 for the past two weeks for the first time since mid-November,” said Hall.Shares of Beyond Meat are up nearly 30% this week, helped bya double upgrade from Bernstein.The Wall Street firm upgraded the stock to outperform from underperform, saying sales should gain steam again as the economic reopening widens. CNBC’sJim Cramer also said this weekthat the alternative meat company is a good reopening play.Virgin Galacticis another highly-mentioned stock on Reddit. The stock is up 28% this week after the company’ssuccessful spaceflight test.Saturday’s launch represented a critical step forward for the space tourism company. The test had been delayed more than six months after a December attempt was cut short.The spaceflight company has had nearly 500 mention on Reddit in the past week with 25% of its float shares sold short, well below the 5% average.Other names likeAthene Holding,Plug Power,Antero Midstream,Academy Sports and Outdoors,Inovio PharmaceuticalsandClean Energy Fuels.Inovio Pharmaceuticals has a whopping 27% of its float shares sold short with 69 mentions on Reddit since last Wednesday.Silvergate Capitalis another name on Bank of America’s list with 46 mentions on Reddit and 6% of its float share sold short.
