The Denza Z9 is available in PHEV and BEV variants, and its tri-motor powertrain allows the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
Denza, the premium brand of BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY), has launched the Z9 sedan, a sister model to the Z9GT hatchback launched in September.
Denza today rolled out the Z9 on the first day of the 2024 Guangzhou auto show, offering plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants at a starting price of RMB 334,800 ($46,320), the same as the Z9GT.
The Denza Z9 PHEV is offered in 3 variants with a starting price of RMB 334,800, RMB 364,800 and RMB 414,800 respectively.
The Denza Z9 BEV is offered in 2 variants with a starting price of RMB 354,800 and RMB 384,800 respectively.
The Z9 is a D-class sedan and the BEV variant and PHEV variant have slightly different dimensions.
The Denza Z9 PHEV measures 5,235 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width and 1,500/1,518 mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
The Z9 BEV measures 5,180 mm, 1,990 mm, 1,500/1,518 mm in length, width and height respectively, and has a wheelbase of 3,125 mm.
Like the Z9GT, the Z9 comes standard with BYD's e3 technology, which can be seen as a scaled-down version of the new energy vehicle (NEV) maker's e⁴ technology built for ultra-luxury cars.
The e3 is based on the Xuanji architecture and brings tri-motor independent drive with dual-motor independent steering at the rear wheels.
The Denza Z9 BEV's front motor has a peak power of 230 kW and a peak torque of 430 Nm. Both rear motors have a peak power of 240 kW and a peak torque of 360 Nm. The powertrain allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.4 seconds.
The Z9 PHEV's front motor has a peak power of 200 kW and a peak torque of 315 Nm. Both rear motors have a peak power of 220 kW and a peak torque of 360 Nm.
Despite the slightly lower power of the motors, the Z9 PHEV has an additional 2.0 T engine with 152 kW and 325 Nm of torque.
With this powertrain, the Z9 PHEV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds.
The Z9 BEV is powered by a BYD blade battery pack with a capacity of 100 kWh and has a CLTC range of 630 km.
The Z9 PHEV is powered by a 38.5 kWh blade battery pack with a battery range of 201 kilometers and a combined range of 1,101 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and full charge.
Denza launched the Z9GT on September 20, the first model in its Z series, also available in three PHEV variants and two BEV variants.
Denza delivered 10,781 vehicles in October, 3,089 for the Z9GT, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
