CHICAGO, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Basis bids for soybeans shipped by barge to export terminals at the U.S. Gulf Coast were narrowly mixed on Tuesday, while export premiums were firmer on strong demand from China, traders said.
* Spot soybean barge basis bids slipped from last week's highs, while deferred barge loadings were bid higher as exporters sought supplies to fill recent export sales.
* The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Tuesday reported private sales of 664,000 tonnes of U.S. soybeans to China, the country's largest single-day purchases in almost seven weeks. It was the latest in a string of U.S. purchases by the world's top soy importer.
* Limited available near-term loading capacity supported spot export premiums at the Gulf following weeks of active export sales.
* Chinese buyers still have import needs to fill for November and beyond. September and October needs have already been filled, a trader said.
* CIF soybean barges loaded in early September were bid a penny lower at 73 cents a bushel over Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) November futures. November barges traded at 76 cents over futures, up 4 cents from bids early in the day. Export premiums for October FOB soy vessels were around 118 cents over.
* CIF September corn barges were bid 2 cents lower at 46 cents a bushel over CBOT December futures. October export loadings were around 98 cents over futures.
* CIF basis bids for hard red winter wheat loaded in September held at 141 cents over December futures. Spot export premiums were 195 cents over.
* September soft red winter wheat barges were bid 65 cents over December futures, while spot export premiums were around 125 cents over.
