It wants to build a competitive moat with scale. It has been investing heavily in local-language original content production worldwide. Netflix stock performance is linked to its net subscriber additions.\nNetflix ended the third quarter with 213.56 million subscribers worldwide. The U.S. and Canada accounted for 34.7% of its total subscriber base.\nStay-at-home orders during the Covid-19 pandemic drove business for Netflix and other home entertainment services. Consumers watched more television because movie theaters, live music and sports were shut down during the pandemic. But Netflix faces difficult year-over-year comparisons in 2021 as the economy reopens following the pandemic.\nEven before the pandemic, Netflix stock benefited from the cord-cutting trend as people quit traditional pay-TV services.\nNetflix Stock Fundamental Analysis\nIn the September quarter, Netflix added 4.38 million streaming subscribers, topping Wall Street's target of 3.78 million. But Netflix stock fell 2.2% in the first trading session following the news, released late Oct. 19.\nFor the current quarter, it forecast adding 8.5 million subscribers. Analysts had been modeling 8.41 million new subscribers in the December quarter.\nNetflix earned $3.19 a share on sales of $7.48 billion in the third quarter. On a year-over-year basis, earnings jumped 83% while sales climbed 16%.\nFor the current quarter, Netflix expects to earn 80 cents a share on sales of $7.71 billion.
