At least it sounds like spinning off animal health for Merck could be one thing to look forward to.\"\nSpins of animal health units have been relatively common with big pharma including the creation of Elanco Animal Health(NYSE:ELAN), an animal health company with a $15.6B market cap that was spun off of Eli Lilly & Co. Zoetis(NYSE:ZTS), which sports a $102B market cap and is world's leading animal health company, was spun off from Pfizer Inc.\nOne analyst even compared J&J's move to spin off its consumer business to Pfizer's spin of Zoetis.\n\"I think of the animal health space being of being a great example of how spin outs of these companies have led to a greater investor appreciation of them,\" Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Louis Chen said on CNBC. \"One of the stocks out there that I thought was great, that Pfizer spun out, was Zoetis. Hopefully that will be the same for their (JNJ) consumer business as they become more nimble and more focused just on consumer products.\"\nAnother potential transaction in the pharma space may be Novartis AG(NYSE:NVS)spinning off is Sandoz generics business, according to Oppenheimer's Holz.\nLate last month the WSJ reported Novartis (NVS) started a strategic review of its generic drugs business, Sandoz, targeting a sale or spinoff of the unit.\n“It’s unclear who the audience for a generic business is at this point,\" Holz said.\nGlaxoSmithKline(NYSE:GSK)in June announced plans to spin off its consumer unit. Bloomberg reported last month that the consumer unit is drawing interest from private equity firms, valuing the segment at
