Not only did Berkshire fail to make a significant purchase in the second quarter, but CEO Warren Buffett and his investment lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, were net sellers of about $1 billion of stocks in the period, according to the company’s latest 10-Q filing.\nBerkshire pared its stakes in three drug stocks—AbbVie,Bristol-Myers Squibb, andMerck—all acquired in 2020. The company also sold seven millionGeneral Motorsshares in the quarter, cutting its holding to 60 million shares, now worth $3.2 billion. Berkshire trimmed itsChevronposition slightly, and added to its stake in grocerKroger.\nThere were no changes in its two largest holdings. The company’sApplestake held steady at 887 million shares, now worth $134 billion, andBank of Americastood at 1.01 billion shares, worth $41 billion. Berkshire’s total equity holdings topped $300 billion as of June 30.\nAs for its own shares, Berkshire was a buyer, scooping up about $6 billion of stock in each of the past two quarters, or about 1% of the shares outstanding in each period.\nAnd it wasn’t the only buyer; both share classes are up about 25% this year, ahead of theS&P 500index’s total return of about 20%.\nLast WeekPre-Tantrum\nStock indexes finished the week in the red, with the bulk of the week’s selling coming on Tuesday and Wednesday. The S&P 500,Nasdaq Composite, andDow Jones Industrial Averageeach sank close to 2% over those days. Minutes from the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy committee’s latest meeting, released on Wednesday, showed an active debate among officials about when to begin withdrawing the emergency stimulus in place since March 2020. The Fed could begin reducing its U.S. Treasury and mortgage-backed securities purchases—currently running at a combined $120 billion a month—this fall. The Dow finished the week down 1.1%, at 35,120.08; the S&P lost 0.6%, to 4441.67; and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.7%, to 14,714.66.\nShop Till They Drop\nRetailers reported their results for the May-to-July period, their second quarter. The overall picture is of consumers armed with pandemic savings and federal stimulus cash—and eager to spend it.Walmart,Target,Home Depot,Macy’s,and more topped Wall Street’s forecasts for sales and profits in the quarter. T-Mobile later confirmed that there had been unauthorized access to some of the company’s data, including records for roughly 54 million people.\nPassing the Baton\nJohnson & Johnsonannounced a surprise CEO transition. Its current chief executive, Alex Gorsky, will hand the reins to Joaquin Duato in January after nine years in charge and three decades at the company, which has a market value of nearly $500 billion. Initial price discussions were in the 1.15 percentage points range.\nProceeds from the sale will be used for general corporate purposes, including share repurchases, dividend payments, funding for capital expenditures and acquisitions. S&P Global Ratings assigned a AA+ rating to the proposed bonds.\nApple, the world’s largest company by market capitalization, has been an active bond issuer of late, capitalizing on historically cheap borrowing costs. The iPhone maker sold $14 billion of bonds in February. Until 2020, Apple hadn’t borrowed in the U.S. investment-grade market more than once in a calendar year since 2017. Now, it’s selling bonds for the fourth time since May 2020.\nShareholder returns are in focus for Apple, which has been reducing its massive cash pile with hundreds of billions of dollars worth of share buybacks and dividend payments in recent years.\n“As Apple’s debt continues to climb, we anticipate net cash to fall by more than $70 billion over the next few years, after cash had declined by $91 billion since the company initiated a more aggressive shareholder-return policy in 2018,” Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Robert Schiffman wrote Thursday.\nIn its most recent earnings report, Apple reported profit that nearly doubled and record revenue, boosted by strong iPhone sales. But the world’s most valuable company also warned that the torrid pace may be slowing and that chip shortages will contribute to a lower rate of growth this quarter.\nApple continues to make significant investments to support long-term growth. It generated $21 billion of operating cash flow and returned $29 billion to shareholders during the third quarter.\nThe company’s outstanding 30-year bonds issued earlier this year took a hit after the new sale was reported, widening 3 basis points Thursday morning in New York.\nBarclays Plc, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Bank of America Corp. managed the sale, the person said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3688,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":803425319,"gmtCreate":1627458920931,"gmtModify":1631891530381,"author":{"id":"4090415433911970","authorId":"4090415433911970","name":"gingergimo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6d053deca945f39d3b8b25651fea99bd","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4090415433911970","authorIdStr":"4090415433911970"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Liked","listText":"Liked","text":"Liked","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":5,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/803425319","repostId":"2154991792","repostType":4,"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2114,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":803422018,"gmtCreate":1627458840134,"gmtModify":1631891530396,"author":{"id":"4090415433911970","authorId":"4090415433911970","name":"gingergimo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6d053deca945f39d3b8b25651fea99bd","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4090415433911970","authorIdStr":"4090415433911970"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Liked","listText":"Liked","text":"Liked","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/803422018","repostId":"1195067283","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1195067283","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627459353,"share":"https://www.laohunote.com/m/news/1195067283?lang=zh_CN&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-28 16:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple’s blowout earnings didn’t help its stock, and here’s why<blockquote>苹果的井喷式盈利对其股价没有帮助,原因如下</blockquote>","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195067283","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"CFO suggests that sales growth will slow overall and in the hot services sector, sending shares lower in after-hours trading despite stunning beat in earnings and iPhone sales. A reconciliation of net cash provided by operating activities to free cash flow is included at the end of this results announcement.\nIncreasing Share Repurchases\nSince April 1, 2021 and through the publication of this results announcement, we repurchased approximately 18.1 million of our ADSs (the equivalent of approximately 144.5 million of our ordinary shares) for approximately US$3,680 million under our share repurchase program. In addition, on August 2, 2021, our board of directors authorized the Company to upsize our Company's share repurchase program from US$10 billion to US$15 billion. This share repurchase program will be effective through the end of 2022.\n\nWe are increasing our share repurchase program from US$10 billion to US$15 billion, the largest share repurchase program in the Company’s history, because we are confident of our long-term growth prospects. Our net cash position remains strong and we have repurchased approximately US$3.7 billion of our ADSs since April 1, 2021.”\nIn June 2021, our China retail marketplaces had 939 million mobile MAUs, representing a quarterly net increase of 14 million. We continue to increase penetration in less-developed areas, reflecting our success in broadening product offerings to meet diverse consumer demand.\n“Alibaba started the new fiscal year by delivering a healthy quarter. For the June quarter, global annual active consumers across the Alibaba Ecosystem reached 1.18 billion, an increase of 45 million from the March quarter, which includes 912 million consumers in China. Over more than twenty years of growth, we have developed a company that spans across both consumer and industrial Internet, with multiple engines driving our long-term growth,” said Daniel Zhang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alibaba Group. “We believe in the growth of the Chinese economy and long-term value creation of Alibaba, and we will continue to strengthen our technology advantage in improving the consumer experience and helping our enterprise customers to accomplish successful digital transformations.”\n“We delivered strong revenue growth of 34% year-over-year. As we said in last quarter's results announcement, we are investing our excess profits and additional capital to support our merchants and invest in strategic areas to better serve customers and penetrate into new addressable markets,” said Maggie Wu, Chief Financial Officer of Alibaba Group. “We are increasing our share repurchase program from US$10 billion to US$15 billion, the largest share repurchase program in the Company’s history, because we are confident of our long-term growth prospects. Our net cash position remains strong and we have repurchased approximately US$3.7 billion of our ADSs since April 1, 2021.”","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"09988":0.9,"BABA":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":2584,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":832672394,"gmtCreate":1629630367118,"gmtModify":1631891530344,"author":{"id":"4090415433911970","authorId":"4090415433911970","name":"gingergimo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6d053deca945f39d3b8b25651fea99bd","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4090415433911970","authorIdStr":"4090415433911970"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Good","listText":"Good","text":"Good","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":7,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/832672394","repostId":"1176431153","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1176431153","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1629604617,"share":"https://www.laohunote.com/m/news/1176431153?lang=zh_CN&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-08-22 11:56","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Buffett’s Berkshire Still Isn’t Buying. It generated $21 billion of operating cash flow and returned $29 billion to shareholders during the third quarter.\nThe company’s outstanding 30-year bonds issued earlier this year took a hit after the new sale was reported, widening 3 basis points Thursday morning in New York.\nBarclays Plc, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Bank of America Corp. managed the sale, the person said.","news_type":1,"symbols_score_info":{"AAPL":0.9}},"isVote":1,"tweetType":1,"viewCount":3688,"authorTweetTopStatus":1,"verified":2,"comments":[],"imageCount":0,"langContent":"EN","totalScore":0},{"id":803422018,"gmtCreate":1627458840134,"gmtModify":1631891530396,"author":{"id":"4090415433911970","authorId":"4090415433911970","name":"gingergimo","avatar":"https://static.tigerbbs.com/6d053deca945f39d3b8b25651fea99bd","crmLevel":11,"crmLevelSwitch":0,"followedFlag":false,"idStr":"4090415433911970","authorIdStr":"4090415433911970"},"themes":[],"title":"","htmlText":"Liked","listText":"Liked","text":"Liked","images":[],"top":1,"highlighted":1,"essential":1,"paper":1,"likeSize":6,"commentSize":0,"repostSize":0,"link":"https://laohu8.com/post/803422018","repostId":"1195067283","repostType":4,"repost":{"id":"1195067283","kind":"news","pubTimestamp":1627459353,"share":"https://www.laohunote.com/m/news/1195067283?lang=zh_CN&edition=full","pubTime":"2021-07-28 16:02","market":"us","language":"en","title":"Apple’s blowout earnings didn’t help its stock, and here’s why<blockquote>苹果的井喷式盈利对其股价没有帮助,原因如下</blockquote>","url":"https://stock-news.laohu8.com/highlight/detail?id=1195067283","media":"MarketWatch","summary":"CFO suggests that sales growth will slow overall and in the hot services sector, sending shares lower in after-hours trading despite stunning beat in earnings and iPhone sales.
