They then use Visa’s infrastructure to distribute the currency via financial intermediaries like commercial banks.</p><p>Eswar Prasad, a senior professor of trade policy at Cornell University and author of &#34;The Future of Money,&#34; explained to Yahoo Finance some of the advantages of the Visa-Consensys model. Morgan Stanley upped its price target to $200 per share in November, while the JPMorgan research team saw Apple stock heading to $3.5 trillion in market cap over the next 12 months.</p><p>One of the most vocal optimists came from the buy side. Loup’s Gene Munster thought that his previous price target had quickly become stale, and that $250 per share now seemed more reasonable. In his opinion, the multi-year opportunity in the metaverse will gain investor appreciation in the new year, which should reignite momentum that the stock had lost in the last few weeks of 2021.</p><p><b>AAPL: the bear case</b></p><p>Despite the upbeat expectations described above, mostly supported by company-specific factors, the market rolled into 2022 with its guard up. The boogieman of the moment seems to be the Federal Reserve’s anticipated reaction to near-full employment and sticky inflation, which should lead to higher interest rates in the next several months.</p><p>I have recently explained how tighter money supply can spell trouble for stocks that trade for relatively high multiples. While AAPL is no Tesla or Rivian, the stock’s forward P/E of nearly 30 times and only modest earnings growth expectations could be a drag for share price in 2022, as investors look for better deals in value and cyclical stocks.</p><p><b>The Apple Maven’s take</b></p><p>I continue to think that Apple is a great stock to buy and hold for the long term. Under the leadership of a CEO (and former COO) that is driven by operational excellence, the company seems to be in very good hands. Better yet, demand for Apple’s products and services, as well as consumer appreciation for the brand, seem to be at or near an all-time high.</p><p>That said, the setup for the first few weeks or months of 2022 looks challenging to me. Apple stock climbed relentlessly in 2020, and then again last year. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.</p><p>As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather. experience directly into an Internet-connected TV with nothing else needed except for a video game controller, Microsoft said.\nMicrosoft has been playing on the strength of its Xbox unit as it vies with Amazon's Luna and Google's Stadia cloud gaming services.\nThe United States-based technology giant also announced it is building devices that will plug into any television screen or computer monitor to stream Xbox game play without any consoles.\nMicrosoft's latest Xbox consoles, released last fall, remain in short supply amid a chip shortage that is constraining industries from tech to autos and Microsoft has said it expects to continue to feel the squeeze in the coming months.\nMicrosoft declined to provide more details on the hardware or the planned partnerships.\nAs the company Walmart needs to expand online operations while also managing 11,500 stores across 28 countries, of which 4,743 are in the U.S. It's in the process of redesigning 1,000 stores by the end of 2021. He listed Amazon as one of the \"best ideas\" for 2022, in the mega-cap category.</p>\n<p><b>Amazon Introduces Numerous New Gadgets</b></p>\n<p>On Sept. 28, Amazon introduced aplethora of consumer electronics gadgets, including smart displays and a home robot, at a fall product launch event.</p>\n<p>The Seattle-based e-commerce giant unveiled several devices that leverage its Alexa voice assistant technology. They include theEcho Show 15smart display, which is designed to keep families organized, connected and entertained.</p>\n<p>Another Alexa-enabled device is Amazon's first robot, which is named&nbsp;Astro. The robot will act as a security guard, companion and mobile smart display. It brings together new advancements in artificial intelligence, computer vision, sensor technology, and voice and edge computing, the company said.</p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Amazon moved deeper into the television market with an&nbsp;all-new lineup of devices&nbsp;and its first Amazon-branded 4K smart TVs. The Amazon TV products go on sale in October. Amazon also introduced a 4K version of its Fire TV stick.</p>\n<p><b>Plenty Of Growth Opportunities</b></p>\n<p>Amazon entered 2021 with plenty of big growth opportunities. This included plans to expand its virtual health care program across the U.S. It is also expanding its prescription drug business.</p>\n<p>On March 17, Amazon announced that its telehealth pilot program, called Amazon Care, would expand to all of its U.S. employees and their families as well as other firms this summer. The program first launched at its Seattle headquarters 18 months ago.</p>\n<p>If Amazon can deliver more efficient health care services, the potential is enormous for fueling its growth engine — and by extension Amazon stock. Health care now comprises nearly a fifth of the U.S. economy.</p>\n<p>Amazon said the program enables workers to connect with medical professionals via chat or video conference, and connect patients with medical professionals. In addition, Amazon Care can dispatch a medical professional to a patient's home for additional care.</p>\n<p>Analysts at Jefferies give Amazon a buy rating and price target or 4,000.</p>\n<p>\"We believe low expectations following two consecutive guide-downs better positions AMZN for upside in the core retail business,\" according to a Jefferies report.</p>\n<p>\"We also see attractive growth at AWS and advertising, AMZN's two highest margin businesses, serving to more than offset near-term cost headwinds from labor shortages and supply chain disruption,\" it said.</p>\n<p><b>Tapping The Market For Prescription Drugs</b></p>\n<p>In addition, Amazon is tapping into the $350 billion market for prescription drugs. The company fired a big shot across the bow of drugstores and prescription drug wholesalers late last year when it&nbsp;launched Amazon Pharmacy. The new unit will offer Amazon Prime members discounts of up to 80% on generic drugs and 40% on brand medications.</p>\n<p>On May 26, Amazon announced it is acquiring&nbsp;iconic film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer&nbsp;for $8.45 billion, looking broadly expand its position in streaming video and increase the value of its Prime rewards program. The acquisition is Amazon's largest since buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion in 2017.</p>\n<p>To get Amazon Prime, users pay an annual or monthly fee for the service and receive multiple perks. This includes free access to Amazon Video and Amazon Music. Amazon has invested billions of dollars in its film and TV operations as well as live sports.</p>\n<p>Another growth vehicle for Amazon in 2021 is advertising.&nbsp;When looking for a product, about half of U.S. adults start their search with Amazon. Wedbush’s Dan Ives, for example, has been talking about the market cap milestone since our conversation in Q3 of last year, at least.</p><p>But other analysts have also hopped on the bullish bandwagon recently. Morgan Stanley upped its price target to $200 per share in November, while the JPMorgan research team saw Apple stock heading to $3.5 trillion in market cap over the next 12 months.</p><p>One of the most vocal optimists came from the buy side. Loup’s Gene Munster thought that his previous price target had quickly become stale, and that $250 per share now seemed more reasonable. In his opinion, the multi-year opportunity in the metaverse will gain investor appreciation in the new year, which should reignite momentum that the stock had lost in the last few weeks of 2021.</p><p><b>AAPL: the bear case</b></p><p>Despite the upbeat expectations described above, mostly supported by company-specific factors, the market rolled into 2022 with its guard up. The boogieman of the moment seems to be the Federal Reserve’s anticipated reaction to near-full employment and sticky inflation, which should lead to higher interest rates in the next several months.</p><p>I have recently explained how tighter money supply can spell trouble for stocks that trade for relatively high multiples. While AAPL is no Tesla or Rivian, the stock’s forward P/E of nearly 30 times and only modest earnings growth expectations could be a drag for share price in 2022, as investors look for better deals in value and cyclical stocks.</p><p><b>The Apple Maven’s take</b></p><p>I continue to think that Apple is a great stock to buy and hold for the long term. Under the leadership of a CEO (and former COO) that is driven by operational excellence, the company seems to be in very good hands. Better yet, demand for Apple’s products and services, as well as consumer appreciation for the brand, seem to be at or near an all-time high.</p><p>That said, the setup for the first few weeks or months of 2022 looks challenging to me. Apple stock climbed relentlessly in 2020, and then again last year. Aided by a spike in pandemic-driven demand for tech devices and lavish liquidity in the system, AAPL recorded one of its best three years of returns ever between 2019 and 2021.</p><p>As much as the metaverse and autonomous vehicles can and likely will support the company’s financial results over the next many years, I think that AAPL stock is overdue for a breather.
