That's because the urge to extract a little more profit often means trading away gains (ironically enough.)</p>\n<p>With that as the backdrop, here's a look at three stocks that could -- and arguably should -- easily double their current values by 2030. It should come as no surprise that each of them is tech-driven, which lends itself to rapid adaptation to ever-evolving marketplaces.</p>\n<h2>1. Tesla</h2>\n<p>Shares of iconic EV maker<b> Tesla</b> are already overextended by almost any measure. Up 44% for the past year and higher to the tune of 1,100% for the past two years, the current price near $938 is markedly above analysts' consensus target of $860 per share. That price also values the stock at a whopping 114 times next year's projected per-share earnings of $8.22. Never even mind the fact that this red-hot stock has something of a penchant for big pullbacks.</p>\n<p>Largely lost in any discussion of Tesla, however, is that what the company's been doing for the past nine years is setting the stage for what's to take shape over the coming nine years. That's complete and overwhelming support for the premise of electric vehicles.</p>\n<p>Take, for instance, Mordor Intelligence's long-term outlook for worldwide spending on EV charging stations. The company estimates that last year's $5 billion worth of investment in EV chargers will swell to nearly $39 billion in 2026. That's an annualized growth rate of 44%, facilitating new demand for otherwise difficult-to-utilize battery-powered cars. In this vein, the U.S. Energy Information Administration estimates that the global count of actively used electric light-duty vehicles will swell from around 1 million now to 672 million by 2050.</p>\n<p>Tesla won't win all of the new EV business, to be clear. But, its name is nearly synonymous with electric vehicles, and as the market leader, it's positioned to remain the top dog. There's enough growth potential in the cards that the stock will likely easily grow into its currently rich valuation.</p>\n<h2>2. Nvidia</h2>\n<p>You may know<b> Nvidia</b>&nbsp;as a video gaming hardware company, and it still does that very well to be sure. Recent research from John Peddie indicates that as of the end of the third quarter, Nvidia accounts for 80% of the video gaming market's purchase of discrete (removable/upgradable) graphics processors, extending its long-standing dominance within this particular market.</p>\n<p>What most investors may not realize is how well the company is penetrating higher-growth arenas. Namely, data centers, and the artificial intelligence (AI) hardware market in particular. Of last quarter's $7.1 billion worth of revenue, $2.9 billion of it came from sales made to data center operators, rivaling gaming sales of $3.2 billion. In some recent quarters, data center revenue has even exceeded video gaming-oriented sales, and certainly has outpaced gaming revenue over the past couple of years.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/7bd71944abb3328cdd7d5abb64c3c1b0\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1333\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>IMAGE SOURCE: GETTY IMAGES.</span></p>\n<p>Look for more of the same, too. Technology market research company Technavio estimates that worldwide data center spending will swell by 21% per year through 2025, growing by more than $500 billion during that period.</p>\n<p>That's good news for Nvidia, made even better by the fact that investments in AI capabilities will lead this charge. Another technology market research organization called IDC estimates that spending on AI will expand at an annual pace of 24% through 2025 when it reaches $200 billion.&nbsp;It <i>all</i> plays right into Nvidia's hand. See, Nvidia's DGX systems were built from the ground up to serve as the basis for a variety of AI applications. The fact that Nvidia's tech powers nearly 70% of the world's supercomputers speaks volumes about just how important the company is to the AI evolution.</p>\n<h2>3. Amazon</h2>\n<p>Finally, add <b>Amazon</b> to your list of stocks that are apt to double in value between now and 2030.</p>\n<p>Yes, it's an obvious choice; it's almost a cliche choice. Amazon is not only one of the world's most recognized brands, it's also one of the world's biggest companies, made so by its dominance within the e-commerce market. eMarketer estimates the company controls 40% of the U.S. online spending market, while its next-nearest competitor -- <b>Walmart</b> -- controls considerably less at 7%. Amazon is crushing it for a reason, and that's why this stock has hammered out an incredible 1,700% gain over the past 10 years.</p>\n<p>If you think Amazon can't grow just as much again for the same time frame, though, think again. Data collected by the U.S. Federal Reserve indicates that only 12% of retail commerce within the country is done online, leaving the company plenty of opportunity to build its online shopping customer base. Amazon isn't quite the same force in overseas markets as it is in North America, but it's getting there.</p>\n<p>In the meantime, Amazon's cloud computing business continues to explode. Last quarter, Amazon Web Services (or AWS) saw year-over-year top-line growth of 39%, accelerating revenue growth through the first three quarters of the year. The company has 71,000 pre-orders for its truck and SUV combined. Further, it has an initial order of 100,000 electric delivery vans from <b>Amazon</b> (NASDAQ:AMZN).</p>\n<h2>Rivian is progressing well</h2>\n<p>After a solid start, Rivian is busy preparing to deliver its pre-orders and delivery vans. It delivered its first SUV, R1S, in December, as planned. As of Dec. 15, the company has produced 652 vehicles and delivered 386 of those vehicles. That puts it behind its initial target of around 1,200 vehicles for 2021. However, such delay isn't too uncommon in the auto segment. Successful deliveries of the first few hundred vehicles add to Rivian's credibility as a company that can deliver on its plans. Rivian expects to deliver its first vans to Amazon this month.</p>\n<p>The company is expanding the annual capacity of its Normal, Illinois, facility from 150,000 to 200,000 vehicles. Moreover, it has announced its second facility near Atlanta, Georgia, with an annual capacity of 400,000 units. Rivian continues to invest in improving its battery technology and plans to make batteries in-house, in addition to sourcing from suppliers. At the same time, the company is investing in developing its own charging network. Overall, Rivian is progressing well on its plans.</p>\n<h2>Strong backing</h2>\n<p>Another key positive about Rivian is that it is backed by prominent investors. Amazon holds a roughly 20% stake in Rivian as of Sept. 30. The company first invested $700 million in Rivian in 2019 and subsequently added to its position to acquire a 20% stake. Other notable investors include <b>Ford Motor Company</b> (NYSE:F), which invested $500 million in Rivian in 2019. Ford now holds a roughly 12% stake in Rivian. T. Rowe Price Associates, <b>BlackRock</b>, <b>Third Point</b>, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Dragoneer Investment Group, and Coatue are among other notable investors in Rivian.</p>\n<h2><b>S</b>hould you buy Rivian stock now?</h2>\n<p>Rivian stock right now has a market capitalization of more than $80 billion. That's after the stock has fallen roughly 48% off its all-time high. Though initially vehicle sales will constitute the majority of Rivian's revenue, over time, the company hopes to generate revenue from services including membership and software services, financing, insurance, charging, vehicle maintenance and repair, and its resale program. From commercial customers, it expects to generate a recurring subscription fee for its fleet management platform, FleetOS.</p>\n<p>As the company expands its production, it hopes to generate economies of scale. That, along with its planned services, should help Rivian generate stronger margins compared to traditional auto companies. This expectation is behind Rivian's massive valuation.</p>\n<p>Indeed, if Rivian manages to accomplish what it is hoping, the stock's price could surge higher. However, it is too early to say how all of this will play out, and how strong will be the margins the company can realistically generate. Competition in the space also should not be overlooked, as leading players including <b>Tesla</b>, <b>General Motors</b>, and Ford will launch their own electric pickup trucks in the coming months.</p>\n<p>All in all, while Rivian looks promising, the stock's valuation doesn't look enticing. The company has 71,000 pre-orders for its truck and SUV combined. Further, it has an initial order of 100,000 electric delivery vans from Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).\nRivian is progressing well\nAfter a solid start, Rivian is busy preparing to deliver its pre-orders and delivery vans. It delivered its first SUV, R1S, in December, as planned. As of Dec. 15, the company has produced 652 vehicles and delivered 386 of those vehicles. That puts it behind its initial target of around 1,200 vehicles for 2021. However, such delay isn't too uncommon in the auto segment. Successful deliveries of the first few hundred vehicles add to Rivian's credibility as a company that can deliver on its plans. Rivian expects to deliver its first vans to Amazon this month.\nThe company is expanding the annual capacity of its Normal, Illinois, facility from 150,000 to 200,000 vehicles. Moreover, it has announced its second facility near Atlanta, Georgia, with an annual capacity of 400,000 units. Rivian continues to invest in improving its battery technology and plans to make batteries in-house, in addition to sourcing from suppliers. At the same time, the company is investing in developing its own charging network. Overall, Rivian is progressing well on its plans.\nStrong backing\nAnother key positive about Rivian is that it is backed by prominent investors. Amazon holds a roughly 20% stake in Rivian as of Sept. 30. The company first invested $700 million in Rivian in 2019 and subsequently added to its position to acquire a 20% stake. Other notable investors include Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), which invested $500 million in Rivian in 2019. Ford now holds a roughly 12% stake in Rivian. T. Rowe Price Associates, BlackRock, Third Point, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Dragoneer Investment Group, and Coatue are among other notable investors in Rivian.\nShould you buy Rivian stock now?\nRivian stock right now has a market capitalization of more than $80 billion. That's after the stock has fallen roughly 48% off its all-time high. Though initially vehicle sales will constitute the majority of Rivian's revenue, over time, the company hopes to generate revenue from services including membership and software services, financing, insurance, charging, vehicle maintenance and repair, and its resale program. From commercial customers, it expects to generate a recurring subscription fee for its fleet management platform, FleetOS.\nAs the company expands its production, it hopes to generate economies of scale. That, along with its planned services, should help Rivian generate stronger margins compared to traditional auto companies. This expectation is behind Rivian's massive valuation.\nIndeed, if Rivian manages to accomplish what it is hoping, the stock's price could surge higher. However, it is too early to say how all of this will play out, and how strong will be the margins the company can realistically generate. Competition in the space also should not be overlooked, as leading players including Tesla, General Motors, and Ford will launch their own electric pickup trucks in the coming months.\nAll in all, while Rivian looks promising, the stock's valuation doesn't look enticing. It's easy to see why some investors would shy away from Nvidia at these levels. The stock price has delivered over 67,000% returns since going public in 1999. A $10,000 investment would be worth approximately $6.7 million today. But the company is firing on all cylinders, and when you look under the hood, you will find that its future looks very bright, which can arguably justify the premium share price. Not only is Tesla a top autonomous and electric vehicle manufacturer, it is, in my opinion, also the best artificial intelligence company in the world. \nSnowflake offers what it calls a \"data warehouse-as-a-service\" (DaaS), a cloud-based data storage and analytics solution. Think \"big data.\" Interestingly, Snowflake is not a SaaS company since its revenue is over 90% consumption based. Snowflake reduces cost and improves agility. Its data platform is unique in that it is not built on an existing big data platform. In addition to big data and analytics, I believe Snowflake is positioned well to create a unique digital advertising moat, which I discuss in detail here. I have been a fan of this stock since pre-IPO, and I have high conviction long term.\nUnity Software  is best known for gaming. It provides tools and software to assist developers in game creation and marketing. In 2019, over 50% of the top 1,000 mobile games were created using Unity. Unity has players in 195 countries, so it's literally a global company. But on Thursday it contributed to the sell-off in growth stocks.</p>\n<p>The S&amp;P 500 value index&nbsp;climbed 0.7%, while the growth index fell 2.1%, reflecting investors' views that high-growth stocks tend to underperform when interest rates rise. After flirting with bankruptcy as recently as two years ago, the company raised money in the capital markets, and now has about $7.3 billion in cash on its balance sheet as of Sept. 30, 2021.</p>\n<p>That second wind has resulted in the company delivering more than 150,000 cumulative vehicles, as of the end of November. Nio reports monthly deliveries, and the below chart shows how fast they have ramped up shipments since the start of 2020.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/8342eca7f9e9cb69ffa016615c11bbcb\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1151\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Data source: Nio. Chart by author.</span></p>\n<p>Nio is also preparing to double its capacity and add new models, which hindered production in October 2021. The company took production down for the first half of the month in preparation for the new ET7 luxury sedan it will begin selling early in 2022. The increase in production capacity comes as the company is branching out of its native China into Europe. It has established a presence in Norway and intends to deliver vehicles in Germany next year.</p>\n<p>Those two markets should lead global growth in EVs, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). EV sales in China and Europe led the world in 2020, with a combined total of 2.7 million units. In its 2021 global EV outlook, the agency offered two scenarios for the EV sector over the next decade.</p>\n<p>By 2030, it expects China and Europe to continue to lead the way with at least 16.6 million vehicles and as many as 25.3 million, if government initiatives focus more on sustainability. Nio looks to be in a prime spot in the biggest markets for explosive growth in the coming years, giving investors an opportunity, as long as the company executes well.</p>\n<p class=\"t-img-caption\"><img src=\"https://static.tigerbbs.com/4accec987e9af0f29cc462664deb37d4\" tg-width=\"2000\" tg-height=\"1333\" width=\"100%\" height=\"auto\"><span>Lucid's luxury electric Air sedan. Image source: Lucid Group.</span></p>\n<p><b>Lucid: High expectations</b></p>\n<p>Analysts and investors following the EV sector have been watching&nbsp;<b>Lucid Group</b>(LCID)&nbsp;since well before it went public by merging with a&nbsp;special purpose acquisition company (SPAC)&nbsp;in late July. Peter Rawlinson, the company's CEO and chief technology officer (CTO), worked as lead engineer at&nbsp;<b>Tesla</b>&nbsp;on its Model S development program. That made some believe his new company and its luxury electric sedans could be the first true competition for the leading EV company.</p>\n<p>Lucid provided investors with lofty goals and projections prior to its public debut. Without expecting any meaningful revenue in 2021, the company said in a July 2021 investor presentation that it expects sales to exceed $2 billion in 2022. With plans to introduce its next vehicle, the Gravity luxury SUV, in late 2023, it hopes to be close to $10 billion in revenue for 2024.</p>\n<p>But the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is scrutinizing several start-up companies that have gone public via SPAC and&nbsp;is now looking into certain early projections and statements that Lucid provided. Investors don't yet know the details of that subpoena, but it illuminates another risk associated with investing in early stage EV companies.</p>\n<p>The business itself is off to a good start, however. Lucid's first car launched on schedule, and the Air has won accolades, including being named<i>MotorTrend</i>2022 Car of the Year. It also has the highest EV battery-range rating given by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), at 520 miles. Lucid may be on a path to greatness, but it still has a long road ahead. With a market cap of over $73 billion just as it is beginning production,it will need to execute perfectly to justify its valuation.</p>\n<p><b>ChargePoint: Exceeding early projections</b></p>\n<p>EV-charging network leader&nbsp;<b>ChargePoint Holdings</b>(CHPT)&nbsp;also went public through a SPAC merger and has reported multiple financial updates as a public company already. How Lucid measures up to its own projections remains to be seen, but so far, ChargePoint has achieved what it told investors it would, and more.</p>\n<p>In the company's fiscal third-quarter 2022 report released this week, management increased revenue guidance for the fiscal-year period ending Jan. 31, 2022 for the second time since its public debut. ChargePoint told investors in a July presentation that it expected fiscal-year revenue of $198 million. That's now been moved up to a range of $235 million to $240 million.</p>\n<p>ChargePoint is also off to a fine start as a public company. It expects to continue to be the leading North American charging-network company and is also expanding in Europe. ChargePoint's gross margin increased 500 basis points to 25% in its most-recent quarter, compared to the prior-year period.</p>\n<p>Though the company reported a larger net loss year over year, it increased revenue by 79%. As it builds out its physical charging ports, it will look toward profitability through its network subscription services. Image source: Lucid Group.\nLucid: High expectations\nAnalysts and investors following the EV sector have been watching Lucid Group(LCID) since well before it went public by merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) in late July. Peter Rawlinson, the company's CEO and chief technology officer (CTO), worked as lead engineer at Tesla on its Model S development program. That made some believe his new company and its luxury electric sedans could be the first true competition for the leading EV company.\nLucid provided investors with lofty goals and projections prior to its public debut. Without expecting any meaningful revenue in 2021, the company said in a July 2021 investor presentation that it expects sales to exceed $2 billion in 2022. With plans to introduce its next vehicle, the Gravity luxury SUV, in late 2023, it hopes to be close to $10 billion in revenue for 2024.\nBut the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is scrutinizing several start-up companies that have gone public via SPAC and is now looking into certain early projections and statements that Lucid provided. Investors don't yet know the details of that subpoena, but it illuminates another risk associated with investing in early stage EV companies.\nThe business itself is off to a good start, however. Lucid's first car launched on schedule, and the Air has won accolades, including being namedMotorTrend2022 Car of the Year. It also has the highest EV battery-range rating given by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), at 520 miles. Lucid may be on a path to greatness, but it still has a long road ahead. With a market cap of over $73 billion just as it is beginning production,it will need to execute perfectly to justify its valuation.\nChargePoint: Exceeding early projections\nEV-charging network leader ChargePoint Holdings(CHPT) also went public through a SPAC merger and has reported multiple financial updates as a public company already. How Lucid measures up to its own projections remains to be seen, but so far, ChargePoint has achieved what it told investors it would, and more.\nIn the company's fiscal third-quarter 2022 report released this week, management increased revenue guidance for the fiscal-year period ending Jan. 31, 2022 for the second time since its public debut. ChargePoint told investors in a July presentation that it expected fiscal-year revenue of $198 million. That's now been moved up to a range of $235 million to $240 million.\nChargePoint is also off to a fine start as a public company. It expects to continue to be the leading North American charging-network company and is also expanding in Europe. ChargePoint's gross margin increased 500 basis points to 25% in its most-recent quarter, compared to the prior-year period.\nThough the company reported a larger net loss year over year, it increased revenue by 79%. As it builds out its physical charging ports, it will look toward profitability through its network subscription services. Additionally, Palantir's year-to-date operating cash flow is $240.4 million, compared to <i>negative </i>$278.3 million for the first nine months of 2020.</p>\n<p>Palantir concluded its Q3 earnings call with guidance for Q4 2021 revenue of $418 million and full-year 2021 revenue growth of 40%. However, not all investors were pleased with these results, as stock-based compensation remains a significant component of the management team's pay.
