Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd (Implats), the second largest platinum producer in the world, has as its prime business the mining, refining and marketing of the major platinum group metals (PGMs) as well as associated base metals nickel, copper and cobalt. Its activities are based on the PGM-rich Bushveld Igneous Complex in South Africa and the Great Dyke in Zimbabwe, the two largest known deposits globally. Implats is also actively involved in the secondary sourcing of PGMs for processing and refining which enables it to capitalize on the group's competitive advantages in these areas.
